Kaukab Stewart, Minister for Equalities for the Scottish Government visits Grampian Women’s Aid

On the 16th of October, we had the honour to welcome a visit from Kaukab Stewart, the Scottish Minister for Equalities to meet with GWA team members, Trustees and volunteers and officially cut the ribbon opening our new dedicated group and peer support space.

Kaukab Stewart showed great passion and support for organisations across Scotland who work towards eradicating violence against women and girls and took time to speak in depth with our Service Manager's and Practitioners learning about their role, the challenges they face and celebrate the great work we do.

Ahead of ribbon cutting, Kaukab Stewart shows her lifetime of support for GWA and our safe space for women and children to be free of domestic abuse, by joining as signatory and placing a stone on our GWA Cairn.

We were delighted to learn that the opening of our space is Kaukab's first official ribbon cutting since her election as MSP. We were also humbled to receive her words of thanks to our service and encouragement of the wonderful work our team do.

A small snippet of Kaukab Stewart's comments:

“Our equally Safe strategy, recognises the crucial role that special services provide, including Grampian Women’s Aid, and I want to acknowledge the support Grampian Women’s Aid provides to victim’s survivors through their recovery process as they face their journey to recovery. You are making a huge difference and probably the hardest days are when you are making the biggest impact. I am delighted to be here and open this room which is a dedicated care so groups can come together for peer support and where they have a safe space.”
